Where It Fits

The volume workhorse of a treat range

Freeze-dried wins on perception. Air-dried wins on economics. Most successful treat ranges carry both — freeze-dried at the top of the shelf, air-dried doing the volume underneath it.

  • Lower unit cost — no vacuum freeze-drying cycle, so the price point works for mass retail and emerging markets
  • Chewier texture — longer chew time, which many owners read as better value per treat
  • Ambient stable — no cold chain, same as freeze-dried
  • Familiar format — jerky and strips need almost no consumer education
  • Pairs with freeze-dried — produces a two-tier range from one supplier relationship

Packaging and quality control

Packaging is fully customisable here, so these three images matter more than they look — they show what you can actually specify, not just what we can write.

Customisation

What you can change

Air-dried is highly configurable — drying profile and cut drive most of the differentiation between competing products on shelf.

Formula

Protein source and blend ratio. Single-ingredient or multi-protein. Additive-free or functional where your market allows.

Cut & texture

Strip width, dice size, twist, and drying profile to set soft-chew vs firm-chew.

Packaging

Your artwork and language. Window or opaque, zip or sealed, single or multi-pack.

Price tiering

We'll show you where to trade texture and cut quality for cost, so you can build economy and premium variants from one line.

02

Production

Questions

Frequently asked

Air-dried or freeze-dried — which should I launch first?
If your market is price-sensitive and you need volume, air-dried. If you're positioning on premium single-ingredient quality, freeze-dried. Many buyers launch freeze-dried as the flagship and add air-dried once shelf space and repeat purchase are established.
Is air-dried the same as "dehydrated"?
The terms overlap and are used loosely in the trade. What matters commercially is the moisture level and texture, not the label. We'll describe precisely what our process produces so your on-pack wording is accurate.
Can I get a soft-chew product for senior pets?
Yes — texture is controlled through the drying profile rather than by adding humectants. Tell us the bite you need and we'll sample to it.
How do you handle colour variation between batches?
Natural meat varies. We set an acceptable colour and grade tolerance in the specification so you're not rejecting compliant production, and we photograph each run so you can see it before loading.
Can I bundle this with freeze-dried in one order?
Yes, and it's usually the better commercial decision — one supplier, one shipment, one document set, and a two-tier range at retail. See Wholesale Supply for how volume tiering works.
