Where It Fits

A considered purchase, not an impulse one

Most treats are bought on impulse. Dental products are bought because the owner has decided their dog needs them — which makes the buyer more deliberate, more willing to pay, and far more likely to repurchase on a schedule.

  • Functional positioning — sits outside the "treat" price comparison, which protects margin
  • Repeat on a cycle — owners rebuy on a routine, not a whim
  • Shape is the product — geometry drives the mechanical action, and shape is fully customisable
  • Vet-adjacent positioning — the category where professional recommendation carries the most weight
Be aware of the freight maths. Dental chews are denser and bulkier than meat treats, so they occupy more container volume per unit of value. Two practical consequences: freight is a larger share of landed cost, and the format is more economical when combined in the same shipment with meat treats. We'll model the landed cost both ways so you can see the difference before you commit.

⚠️ Specification ranges above describe the format in general and are not a certificate of composition. Final values — including material base, hardness, shape tolerance and unit count — are agreed per project and recorded in the specification sheet attached to your quotation. Custom shape tooling requires a minimum volume to justify the setup cost.

Packaging and quality control

Shape, hardness and pack format are all customisable here, so the images should show the range you can specify — not a single hero product.

Customisation

What you can change

Shape and hardness are where a dental product differentiates. Both are adjustable.

Shape & size

Standard shapes, or custom tooling to your own design where volume supports the setup cost.

Hardness

From puppy-soft through to firm chew, set through formulation and bake profile.

Flavour & material

Flavour direction and the starch-based vs meat-based matrix, which changes both cost and the on-pack story.

Packaging

Pouch, box, blister or tub. Your artwork, your language, your count per pack.

Questions

Frequently asked

Can we claim dental benefits on the packaging?
That depends entirely on your destination market's rules, and we will not help you write a claim we can't stand behind. Mechanical chews and biscuits can be described in terms of what they physically do; anything resembling a health or veterinary claim needs to be checked against your local regulation before it goes on pack. Tell us the market and we'll tell you what we can evidence.
Do we need our own shape tooling?
Not necessarily. Standard catalogue shapes carry no tooling cost. A custom shape requires tooling, which has an upfront cost and a minimum volume to justify it. We're happy to quote both so you can compare.
Should I ship dental chews on their own?
Usually not, unless the volume is large. Because the format is dense and bulky, freight takes a bigger share of landed cost. Most buyers combine dental product with a meat-treat order so the container is used more efficiently.
Is there a puppy or senior version?
Yes. Hardness is controlled through formulation and bake profile, so a softer variant for puppies or older dogs can be produced from the same line.
What about product safety for chew-type items?
Chew products need to be sized appropriately for the dog's size, and that's a consumer-facing instruction as well as a formulation decision. We'll sample across size grades and discuss what on-pack guidance your market expects.
